Toronto — Born Ruffians are set to embark on an eighteen-date tour of Canada in support of their second album Say It which was released in June of 2010 on Paper Bag Records.  Support on the western leg of the tour will come from Sheezer with First Rate People taking in dates from Peterborough to Montreal (details below).  Born Ruffians have also just completed a new video ‘The Ballad Of Moose Bruce’ which premiered on MuchMusic’s The Wedge.

“The Ballad of Moose Bruce” video is directors Brian Hamelin and Christian Kelly’s debut. Hamelin explains the ideas behind the wrestling themed music video:

“The idea to make a Born Ruffians video using wrestling footage was inspired by a collective love for “pro wrestling” that we and band all share. The video was shot on the Olympus I-Speed 3, a camera usually reserved for capturing the damage caused in controlled car crashes. This enabled us to capture the wrestling at 2000 frames per second. This speed revealed the discipline, athleticism and precision that goes into mastering the art of pro wrestling. The tension created by the action in the ring being slowed to such an extent perfectly matches the tension built in The Ballad Of Moose Bruce by the repetitive drums and bass line of the song. The video stars Ring of Honor, Pro Wrestling Guerilla and Pro Wrestling Noah star Chris Hero. The video was shot at the Squared Circle Training facilities in North York Ontario and co-stars one of their trainers, Jordan “Marcus” Marquez. The video was produced by Vulture Culture Films.”

If Born Ruffians’ 2008 debut album Red Yellow and Blue was the result of a talented and precocious gang of freshmen, their 2010 follow-up, Say It, would be the project they left school to finish — a declaration that they’re smart and ambitious enough to make it on their own, and furthermore, that they’re in it for the long haul.

Taking two weeks to record the album, the band finds itself teaming up again with producer Rusty Santos.  The Ruffians and co. holed up at Mississauga’s Metalworks studio and loosed the reins on their ambitions, experimenting with Minimoogs and saxophones before eventually scaling much of it back in the mixing process. The result is a very mature album, further amplifying the band’s unique voice and sound, ready to take them as far as they want to go.
